in the forest
On the atrium of Galeria Nara Roesler, Shirley Paes Leme exhibits the installation In the Forest, from 1984, as part of the Otras Floras group show, curated by José Roca.
From the white walls, dried tree branches project themselves outwards, shrinking the space in all directions. Interestingly, when entering the installation, one has the feeling of space expansion in comparison to the original space. The thread of branches is not dense enough to be constrictive. In fact, it rather draws patches of tridimensional space and, in tandem with the Otras Floras exhibition thesis, proposes a geometry of nature, in which the sum of the parts can be greater than the whole.
