Sanna Kannisto (Hameenlinna, 1974). Vive e trabalha em Helsinki.

Sanna Kannisto is a Finnish artist that has undertaken extensive trips in the tropical jungles of Costa Rica, Brazil and Peru. With the help of a simple lighting device and pieces of cloth she improvises a makeshift photographic studio that allows her to photograph her subjects in situ, without the need to uproot the speciments from their natural habitat, which was always the case with the expeditions of the 18th and 19th century when there always existed an enormous distance (temporal and physical) between the actual experience of nature and the way it was ultimately represented.

On the video Bee Studies: Orchid Bee Males, a territorial dispute is played out on a constructed space: a dish that has been sprayed with a concentrated Orchid scent. The the video shows the uneasy sharing of a minuscule space between males of the same species –until bigger wasps arrrive, further complicating the balance of power and territory. —José Roca.
